Community Funds for Final Phase - Visioning & Customized Work

Each community has a budget of UP TO $4000 to utilize for expenditures that meet the purpose of the grant in this final phase.  These dollars are to be used to reduce barriers for your community work on leadership and poverty.  A grid is linked here to assist with expenditures that a community may have questions about.  Various expense items for communities participating in the Horizons program can be found here.  Please contact one of the staff working with the Horizons program if there is something needed that is not listed on the website or the list.

Travel for Communities in Final Phase

A number of regional events will be held sponsored by ND Horizons throughout this final phase.  Communities are invited and certainly encouraged to attend as they see fit - especially if the program fits part of their vision and community plan.  Travel, lodging and per diem (meals when traveling) to attend regional activities/events will come out of each respective community's budget for this section so please plan accordingly.  ND Horizons will cover the meeting costs when there (food, registration, materials, etc), but each community will be responsible for their travel costs.

Questions to Ask Yourself when Considering Activities / Events to Spend Community Funds On

  • Does this affect the entire community or just 1 -2 people?
  • Is this a part of the community's vision?
  • How does this relate to leadership development (community wide) OR poverty reduction (community wide)?
  • How does this relate to community development?
  • Is this something that has been ongoing for sometime and funds are needed to keep it going OR is it something new and expanded meeting a broader audience -  (preferred)?
  • If only 1-2 people attend this session with the hopes of bringing their newfound knowledge back to the community at large, how will this be done?
