Welcome to the North Dakota
Horizons Website!
When it comes to creating a thriving
community, it is the community members themselves who are the
key to success. The Horizons program is about the changes
a community can make to move from poverty to hope, from
population and economic decline to prosperity. The
Horizons 18-month project is for rural communities of fewer than
5,000 with poverty rates of at least 10%.
Horizons is currently in place in 21
communities in North Dakota that are being supported by the North
Dakota State University Extension Service. The program is open to all community
members and focuses on practical strategies and tools, provides
locally-delivered training, and emphasizes skill building to
strengthen community leadership systems. Experience has
shown that small communities can thrive if they have a strong
leadership system.
