FNP Job Standards

Family Nutrition Program Job Standards (2008-2009)

Job performance is based on meeting these job standards during the program year:

1.  In-kind contribution
By September 30, 2009 meet requested levels of in-kind contributions.

2. Timeliness of record keeping and reporting
Submit on-time records and reports 10 out of 12 months from November 2008 through October 2009.

3. Completeness and accuracy of records and reports
Submit complete and accurate records and reports 10 out of 12 months from November 2008 through October 2009.

4. Evaluation of Program Outcomes
Teach in each of the year’s focus areas. Survey adult participants each time you teach in the focus area. Send all surveys to the state FNP office.

Focus Areas for Adults:

  • Family Time - Active and Fun
  • How Much? Food and Physical Activity
  • Vegetables & Fruits - Simple Solutions
  • Family Meals - Easy, Tasty & Healthy

Focus Area for Youth:

  • On the Move to Better Health
  • Banking on Strong Bones

5.  Professional Development
Write a professional development plan and carry out the activities outlined in the plan.

a) Submit a copy of the plan to the supervisor and to the state FNP office by January 10.

b) Submit a report of professional development activities at the close of the program year (by October 10).

Clarifications for FNP standards:

1. In-kind amount will be that amount the state FNP office has calculated and asked you to come up with to support your position.

2. Timeliness

  • Refer to FNP Reporting Calendar.
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual paperwork needs to be postmarked by the 10th of following month.
  • Paperwork is also considered on time if date stamped by a District Director by the deadline.

3. Record keeping

  • Refer to the FNP Reporting Calendar.
  • Paperwork must be complete and accurate 10 out of 12 months.
    • Complete means:  all signatures in place, all forms turned in, and all numbers filled in.
    • Accurate means:  dates coincide with activities, all numbers on travel vouchers and RFPs are correct, no tax on receipts, and calculations are correct.

4.  Evaluation

  • Lessons that are surveyed must be in the focus areas (because the survey questions are geared especially to those topics).
  • Must use survey instruments provided (www.ag.ndsu.edu/foodwise/fnpforms.html).
  • Send surveys to state FNP office as completed.

5.  Professional Development Plan and Professional Development Report

  • Forms will be provided to record the plan and the resulting report.
  • The Professional Development Plan needs to be submitted to state FNP office and supervisor by January 10.
  • The Professional Development Report needs to be submitted to state FNP office and supervisor by October 10.

Performance Evaluation Procedure

Nutrition Education Assistants'/Agents' work performance will be formally evaluated by the supervisor on an annual basis. Criteria to determine excellence in job performance include meeting job standards.

Additional items to be considered and noted in the NEA's performance evaluation include:

  • The NEA uses pre-approved, research-based curriculum and materials to teach.
  • Classes are planned to accommodate client needs as much as possible.
  • NEA refers clients to other agencies for additional services.
  • NEA keeps supervisor informed of progress, program needs and problems.
  • NEA makes efforts to incorporate suggestions for program enhancement or improved performance.
  • NEA is cooperative and collaborative in the office environment.
  • NEA attends and actively participates in training events.
  • NEA makes quarterly contacts with agencies regarding referrals and current FNP activities.
  • NEA incorporates other "soft" skills into the work setting, e.g. organizational skills, interpersonal skills, promptness, attendance, positive work environment.

A copy of the performance evaluation should be sent to the state FNP office and for broad-banded employees (Nutrition Education Assistants) the original performance evaluation (Responsibility Review) should be sent to the NDSU Office of Human Resources.
