Food safety is a persistant growing concern. About 76
million Americans suffer from foodborne illness
each year. Of those, 5,000 die.
The Great Plains Institute of Food Safety (GPIFS) offers
five educational programs to provide students
with the knowledge and problem-solving skills
they need to respond to food-related threats to
the public’s health.
Mission
The Great Plains Institute for Food Safety engages
in multidisciplinary action research and education
to provide solutions to food safety, protection and
security challenges.
Faculty participating in the GPIFS are from a wide variety
of disciplines and are housed in the colleges of Agriculture, Food
Systems, and Natural Resources; Arts, Humanities
and Social Sciences; Engineering and Architecture;
Human Development and Education; and Science and
Math.
The GPIFS is part of the NDSU School of Food Systems.
