Children's Books About Food, Eating and Health - A book list for parents and teachers designed for pre-school and early elementary students, plus links to sites for children, parents and teachers.

The American Dietetic Association - Provides food and nutrition information from a professional association of dietitians. Search for information on vitamin/mineral supplements and many other nutrition topics. Includes frequently asked questions, nutrition resources, and information on the National Center for Nutrition and Dietetics.

American School Food Service Association - Food and nutrition tips, child nutrition news and various information for students, parents and teachers.

American Society of Nutritional Sciences (American Institute of Nutrition) - Provides background about AIN as well as information on members and index for the current Journal of Nutrition.

Center for Disease Control (CDC) - Provides a single point of access to a variety of CDC reports, guidelines, and even numeric public health data.

Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion Homepage - Dietary Guidelines for Americans and other nutrition information.

Children's Nutrition Research Center (CNRC) - The CNRC is one of five USDA/ARS human nutrition research centers and is dedicated to defining the nutrient needs of healthy children, birth through age 18, and pregnant and nursing women.

FDA Consumer:  Health Claims - Information and background on health claims allowed on food labels.

5 A Day Homepage - Because of the important health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables, all national health authorities recommend that Americans increase their fruit and vegetable intake to at least 5 a day. This provides clues on how to do that.

Folic Acid Campaign - CDC - The CDC, the March of Dimes, and the National Council on Folic Acid have organized the National Folic Acid Campaign to promote the use of folic acid to prevent the serious birth defects spina bifida and anencephaly.

The Food Allergy Network - The Food Allergy Network (FAN) is a nonprofit organization established to help families living with food allergies, and to increase public awareness about food allergies and anaphylaxis (a severe life-threatening reaction). FAN provides education, emotional support, and coping strategies. 

International Food Information Council Foundation - Nutrition information for consumers, professional, and educators in a well-developed site. Presented from perspective of IFIC, supported by the food and beverage industry.

Linus Pauling Institute/Oregon State University - This information center is a source for up to date, scientifically accurate information regarding the roles of specific vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals (plant chemicals that may affect health), and other nutrients in preventing disease and promoting health.

Lycopene Website - Includes facts and background, content, research updates, news releases, and recipes related to the phytonutrient, Lycopene.

Nutrition Action Health Letter - Information on avoiding diet-related diseases and other information. Tends to have a consumer advocate point of view.

Nutrition Analysis Tool - Web-based diet analysis from University of Illinois, now version 2.0  

NIH-Office of Dietary Supplements - Provides research information on the role of dietary supplements, as well as Computer Access to Research on Dietary Supplements (CARDS) and links to other organizations.  Also a link to IBIDS, research citations and abstracts regarding food supplements.

Team Nutrition - Provides background about the National Team Nutrition efforts.

Weight-control Information Network - Provides reliable information on nutrition and obesity. Covers topics such as prescription medications for obesity treatment, very low-calorie diets, weight cycling, and weight loss for life information.
