Root Rot, Seedling Blight and Sclerotinia Stem Rot
Root rot and seedling blights can be caused by Fusarium, Rhizoctonia and Pythium. Control involves avoiding other broad leaved specialty crops in the rotation, and using small grains and corn in the rotation to reduce populations of these fungi in the soil.
Sclerotinia can attack lentils if wet weather occurs at flowering. Stems may develop a watery soft rot and be covered with a white fungus growth. Pods may also rot. Control involves avoiding other susceptible crops in rotation. Susceptible crops include sunflower, dry beans, canola, field peas and soybeans.
