Developing
youths’ potential as tomorrow’s
leaders by involving thousands of young
people in 4-H youth development programs

Stimulating
communities’ economic growth through
the Center for Community Vitality, Rural
Leadership North Dakota and local programs

Providing
information on new crop varieties, livestock
production research, specialty crops,
livestock and crop prices, hourly weather
data, crop disease forecasts and beef
quality assurance efforts to improve agricultural
operations and help producers adapt to
changing markets and consumer preferences

Giving
families information on parenting skills,
financial planning, nutrition and disaster
preparedness to help them make better
decisions

Responding
to disasters quickly by creating Web sites
and other resources with assistance on
coping with flooding, winter weather,
drought and late-maturing or frost-damaged

avoiding foodborne illnesses, securing
farms and ranches, and using equipment

the environment by supplying information
on animal waste management, septic systems,
water quality and handling pesticides

The
North Dakota State University Extension Service
provides people with the reliable information
they need to succeed in today’s increasingly
complex world and prepare for the future.
The Extension Service strives to be a vibrant,
modern educational network that helps North
Dakotans improve their quality of life. Extension
offers knowledge that’s based on the
latest research locally and at other universities
across the country and around the world.
Delivery
People
are lifelong learners and seek information
in different ways and places. That’s
why the Extension Service reaches people through
a number of methods, including publications,
workshops, meetings, Web sites, videoconferences,
discussions, lessons, news stories, e-mail,
phone calls, field tours and individual visits.
Extension staff provide the high-quality programs
and materials that people expect and use the
best approach to reach the target audience.

Program
Partners
The
Extension Service has an ongoing program planning
process. Program priorities are based on people’s
needs, with input from a number of sources,
including individuals, groups, county and
multicounty advisory committees, area and
state Extension specialists, county Extension
agents, researchers, and Extension’s
state and federal partners. The Extension
Service often carries out programs in collaboration
with others. Funding comes from county, state
and federal governments; grants; contracts;
fees; and partnerships.

Extension Service Purpose
is to create learning partnerships that help
adults and youth enhance their lives and communities.
Extension
Service Mission
Extension staff endeavor to provide an educational
system that links research, science and technology
to people of all ages. To do that, Extension
is committed to being innovative, adaptable
and willing to listen to people’s needs
and concerns to create new ways of thinking,
learning and addressing issues of today and
in the future. |
