Therapeutic Horsemanship
The Therapeutic Horsemanship Minor and Therapeutic Riding Certificate programs at NDSU are a collaborative effort between NDSU Equine Science, the College of Education and Human Services at Minnesota State University – Moorhead (MSUM), Riding on Angels’ Wings Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program (ROAW), and PATH International (formerly NARHA - founded in 1969 as the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association). Therapeutic horsemanship is a type of equine assisted
activity that involves teaching horsemanship skills to individuals who have physical, cognitive, emotional and (or) behavioral disabilities. The curriculum consists of coursework from both NDSU and MSUM, as well as service learning and teaching practicums at ROAW. As one of only four Level Three NARHA Higher Education Members in the country, NDSU students who complete the minor or certificate requirements have the opportunity to test for their NARHA Registered Level Instructor certification upon completion of the program.
