NEWSWORTHY NOTES Gayle Gette, Extension/FNP Agent Picture Perfect! All great images, digital or otherwise, start by capturing a great photo and capturing great photos requires an understanding of your camera. Participants in the Picture Perfect! digital camera workshop held November 22, 2003, at the Towner County Extension office meeting room learned many things about digital cameras including the difference between digital and traditional cameras, what pixels are and how they affect the quality of a photo, framing a picture, what to expect from $99 digital cameras vs. $400 ones, downloading pictures to a computer, and editing. The workshop, taught by Darrell J, technology instructor at Starkweather/Munich high schools, first covered the basic mechanics of digital cameras. Participants each had their own camera and laptop computer, on loan from the Center for 4-H Youth Development, NDSU, to practice and perfect each step of instruction. Mr. J covered how to capture an image, how to review images, how to delete images, how to change exposures, how to choose image quality and size, how to frame an image, how to use a self- timer, and other topics. Students spent time taking pictures of a variety of subjects, both indoors and out. The second half of the workshop was spent downloading their pictures onto their computers, and "playing" with the photo editing software. Cropping, rotating, fixing red-eye, adding and subtracting elements were all practiced by participants. Printing finished photos was also discussed and demonstrated. Participants included Deb and Eric O, Egeland, Jackie, Diedre and Darla D, Starkweather, and Corrina and Tina
K, Egeland. The
workshop was coordinated by Gayle Gette, Extension Agent, and funded was
provided by the Towner County Crop Improvement Association. |
