m Towner County was represented well at the State Fair Horse and Livestock Show by members of the Young Riders and Handy-Thrifty Helpers Clubs.

Congratulations to everyone who was involved in these events this summer, and for those who werent, consider participating this coming year! Thanks to the Young Riders Club for transporting the projects to and from the State Fair.

                            Having fun at Achievement Day!

Awards Form
The 2004-2005 awards form is included in this mailing. Please complete and send back to the Extension office by October 4. Be sure to fill out a separate Award Application (page 7) for EACH award applied for. Each application should briefly explain the learning and work completed for the specific award being applied for. For example, if a 4-Her is applying for a gardening award, page 7 should specify what has been learned and completed in a gardening project. Another page 7 would be filled out for a clothing award, which would specify what has been completed and learned in a clothing project. Please call your 4-H leader or the Extension office if you have any questions on how to fill out the awards form. Please also remember these forms require both a leaders and a parents signature before they are turned in. Last year the 4-H Council decided to separate the trip/camp page from the main Awards Form, which is also enclosed.

Deb Odegaard and Corrina K at 2003 Banquet
Banquet
The Towner County 4-H Awards Banquet will be held November 14, 5:00 p.m., tentatively at the Cando School. The menu is currently under discussion, but certainly will be delicious! We hope to have the EYC participants report on their trip this summer. The banquet is open to all 4-H members and their families, leaders, and sponsors. More information on specific club duties will be sent later.

Enrollment Forms
All member and leader enrollment forms for the new year were given to leaders at the August Council Meeting. All members and leaders are to complete a form, whether you are a new member/leader this year or a returning one. Please complete these and send to the Extension office by November 1st , so we can get all members registered and keep our 4-H mailing list updated.

Livestock Show
Leaders and parents discussed future Livestock Show participation at the August Council Meeting. Several issues were discussed, but no final decisions were made. The possibility of Towner County hosting a ND Junior Point Show was also discussed. Please let your club leaders know any comments or suggestions you may have about the Livestock or Junior Point Show. Information about these activities will be sent to leaders later.

North Dakota 4-H Century Family
North Dakota celebrates 100 years with 4-H, and the North Dakota 4-H Foundation would like to recognize any North Dakota family with a combined 100 years or more of membership and/or leadership in 4-H. Direct-line family members are considered, beginning with current 4-H members, and documentation is NOT necessary. In most families, it is necessary to include three generations (or four) to get the required 100 years. Applications, including directions and a sample, were in the leaders packets handed out at the August Council Meeting. If you think your family will qualify, please contact your club leader for the application, call our office, or check the 4-H Foundation website at http://www.ext.nodak.edu/4h/foundation/ click on the 4-H Century Families link to download a printable form. Applications are still being accepted, so please consider this opportunity to recognize your family!

4-H Week

National 4-H week is October 3-9, 2004. The Record Herald will be contacting each county 4-H leader for club news. This would be a good opportunity for a club reporter to summarize club activities or write about club plans for the new year. Be sure to include pictures of any 4-H events and activities your club has participated in this past year.
