4-H LEADERS COUNCIL MEETING
MINUTES OF MEETING
JULY 16, 2002
Joan called the meeting to order. Pledges were said. The Treasurer's report was given.
The Rummage Sale was discussed as to when it should be next year. Matter was tabled until fall
meeting.
Signs are up in the petting zoo with questions about the animals. 4-H will pay $250 to zoo for the
signs. Do we want to put up more? Pictures will be taken for the web site.
Matt will help with Consumer Choice Judging practice on Friday, at 7:00 p.m. in Mooreton.
Colleen encouraged all clubs and members to write articles for the Green Gazette about projects
or something special clubs are doing.
Tech Day was held July 12 at the Hughes Shelter in the park.
Achievement Day assignments were discussed. Grand champion categories will be kept the same
as last year.
National 4-H Week, October 6-12, was discussed. Could get some old pictures of 4-H'ers and
make a window display. Also could serve birthday cake in Town Centre Square during that week.
Food baskets from Achievement Days could be given to "Friends of 4-H".
Dale will call Dean at KBMW to see if they can record PSA's on August 8 from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Rabbit and poultry cages need to have "Teen" and "Preteen" signs put up for the judges.
The new Award Forms will be done by September and will be sent out.
Richland County will receive the flag which will be at the State Fair for the Centennial year. The
flag could possibly be used for a parade float.
4-H displays could be put up in the rotunda in the courthouse. Clubs can rotate.
A "thank you" from Katie Ritten for being able to attend the Youth Conference was read. A slide
show from the Youth Conference will be shown at Awards Night. This will be obtained from the
State Office (Rick).
It was brought up that maybe Showcase should be held where it will get more public attention. Suggestions were: Town Centre Square, a shelter at the park. This will be checked into.
There will be a Get Together for Lesa on August 8 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Community Center
during Achievement Days. A $50 gift certificate from Fleet Farm will be purchased as an
appreciation gift for all her years of dedication to 4-H in the Extension Office. Everyone will be
asked to bring a snack to pass. A birthday cake celebrating 100 years of 4-H will be available for
the public during the viewing time of 5-7.
A Float Committee consisting of Mary Mauch, Sheree Foertsch, Dale Siebert, Joan Beyer,
Colleen Svingen and Gale Link was formed. There is a parade in Mooreton on Labor Day
Weekend and also in October in Wahpeton.
Colleen mentioned having a Lego Day sometime in August for youth.
