RICHLAND COUNTY 4-H LEADERS COUNCIL MEETING

JANUARY 29, 2002


Present: Karen Weber, Mary Lepp, Colleen Svingen, Deb Evenson, Joan Beyer, Rich Spellerberg, Matt Danuser, Dale Siebert, Lesa Wilm

OLD BUSINESS

ELECTION OF OFFICERS-past president is a director

Nominated for PRESIDENT- Joan Beyer. Motion 1st by Rich Spellerberg, and 2nd by Karen Weber. Matt Danuser made a motion to cast a unanimous ballot for Joan Beyer 2nd by Karen Weber. All in favor, none opposed, motion approved. VICE PRESIDENT-Mary Mauch. All in favor, none opposed, motion approved. Rich Spellerberg made a motion to keep current officers (Vice President/Treasurer) in office. 2nd by Karen Weber. All in favor, none opposed, motion approved.

Election of Directors. Karen Weber made a motion to nominate Matt Danuser to director for a 2 year term. 2nd by Rich Spellerberg. Rich Spellerberg made a motion to re-elect Tammy Miller as Director. 2nd by Matt Danuser. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

Current directors with a 1 year term left are: Rose Dotzenrod, and Karen Weber.

Motion was made to delete Award Forms-Section A #9- 2nd by Mary Lepp. All in favor Motion carried.

Discussion regarding the award forms was done. Different ideas were shared: having leaders nominate members, Rich Spellerberg expressed that it was a lot of work to fill out the forms, and that some like to use them. Matt Danuser expressed that he liked the idea of recognizing members in the club. Some in attendance felt if the 4-Hers were not pushed they would not fill it out. It was also suggested taking points off and just filling it out. Colleen encouraged a committee getting together and exploring award forms from other counties. A committee was set up to explore the award forms: Joan Beyer, Matt Danuser, Karen Weber, and Tammy Miller. They will get together at a date that is available to the committee. Any decisions will be tabled until the next meeting.

A question came up regarding the number of exhibits in horticulture. The Achievement Day committee will decide this prior to Achievement Days.

It was discussed the Achievement Day dates: Thursday, September 8th, and Friday, September 9th. Due to a wedding we needed to move the dates to Thursday, and Friday.

Rummage Sale 6th (setup), 7th, and 8th. Joan will ask Wayne if we can store it at the city hall. Joan will go on the radio to advertise. Everything will be $.50. We will need extra racks, and get tables from the city hall.

April 6 will be Consumer Choices

May 28th will be Communication Arts

July 1 will be County Showcase

Dale will call Vistos to see if we can use their building again for the livestock show.

It was decided to have the Burger King “freezy” coupon on the back of the raffle tickets. Reminder was given for clubs to get their prizes in.

Deb will be doing a “Spotlite on 4-H”on the website. Clubs can send in their pictures of their club activities and they will be posted on the website.

Reminder that we would like email addresses of all the 4-H leaders.

There will be a Group Decision Center on February 4th. Grades 9 - 12 are invited, along with 4-H leaders. Please call the office to schedule a time.

Rich Spellerberg/Northern Lights volunteered to do metal letters for the 4-H barn.

A camera is available in the office to take pictures of your club doing community activities of different club activities. The camera needs to be returned by February 10th so the office can mail it to the National 4-H office.

Freedom to Soar/21st Century Program will be April 28th. Last year the Weber family demonstrated making airplanes. Some 4-Hers handed out brochures.

It was discussed to have youth representation at the council meetings. It was suggested to have one youth representation from each club. Matt Danuser also discussed the need for 2 parent/leaders to organize the Jr. Leader club. It was suggested that a form be made and the youth could apply. Then to ask about the interest of a junior leaders club, organization, and etc.

The concern of kits not being allowed at achievement days especially latch hook, as it is hard to find something in latch hook that is not a kit. It was decided that a latch hook would be ok.

Next meeting: April 15th, 2002 - 7:00 p.m. at the LEC

It was suggested to look up the leaders forum and put in the green gazette.
