MINUTES OF 4-H COUNCIL MEETING
AUGUST 26, 2003
7:00 PM, COURTHOUSE

Meeting was held in the Commissioners Room in the Courthouse at 7:00 pm. Present were Deb Evenson, Sheree Foertsch, Julie Wahler, Karen Weber, Joan Beyer, Dale Siebert and Colleen Svingen.

Karen Weber, Vice President, in the absence of President Matt, called the meeting to order. Pledges were cited. Secretarys report was read and approved. Treasurers report was given and approved. 5% fee will be taken off the top of the total premium donations received for judges fees. More soliciting of businesses will be done.

OLD BUSINESS

4-H Barn cleanup - area around was cleaned up, and bottom was primed and needs to be painted. Julie Wahler and Darrell Wahler, Ed Goerger, David Goerger, Dale Siebert, Matt Danuser were present at the clean up day, August 16, 2003. A date will have to be set to paint. Also tin has to be put up on the door and the 4-H sign put up. Saturday, September 20 was set for a paint day at the 4-H barn, 9:00 am.

Check to see who paid for the metal for the sign made by Chad Klosterman. Maybe write thank you note to him and his club?

Karen talked to Cindy at Achievement Days regarding the Ag Trip. It will probably be set for sometime this winter.

Achievement Days - evaluation - went very well, even though it was not air conditioned. Less cleanup at barn than Wyndmere. Maybe there could be less straw next year. Sisters at the School seemed happy to have us there.

Send a thank you from the 4-H Council to Sisters. - Shervens donated trailer to haul the cages.

Get kids to write thank yous to radio station - KBMW - Meg MacKenzie.

Get list from Mary of who received thank you baskets.

Colleen explained that it is hard to find judges. It should be define what the ribbons mean. There was agreement that some of the judges will not be asked back next year. 4-Hers should be reading their project books and know what they say about their project. The Extension Office will be happy to photocopy any part of any project book for 4-H members.

NEW BUSINESS

Fall Family and Sponsor Picnic - maybe it could be held at Mooreton and have hamburgers and hotdogs and the rest potluck. Achievement Day premium donators would be invited also. Could be held at Hughes Shelter. This would be instead of Awards Night in November. Joan will call the Community Club in Mooreton to find out available dates and cost. Maybe September 14 or October 5.

It was suggested that awards could be handed out during Fun Day on November 15.

Use of 4-H correl panels - Theresa Olson wants to rent them for short time use. The stipulation would be that she would bring them to Hankinson for Achievement Days. It was suggested to charge $10 per panel, there are roughly 30 panels. Have a contract written up. Motion made to rent the panels to Theresa Olson for $10/panel/year and the money should be set aside in case they would have to be repaired or replaced or even to buy a gate. Seconded and passed.

Maybe we could move Achievement Days up to the first part of July before the State Fair. This will be tabled until next meeting so we can find out when the 2004 State Fair will be held.

Get committee together for Fun Day which will be held November 15 at Wyndmere. Karen Weber, and maybe Sharon Ritten, volunteered to be on committee.

Family Fun and Fitness - January 18, 2004 - NDSCS - anyone having ideas and would like to help out, call the Extension Office.

National 4-H Week - October 6-12, 2003

Next meeting is October 20, 2003, 7:00 pm.

Meeting adjourned.

Deb Evenson
Stand-in Secretary
