4-H COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 30, 2001

Meeting was held at the Law Enforcement Center with 10 members present: Joan Beyer, Karen Weber, Tammy Miller, Gale Link, Dale Siebert, Anita Onchuck, Linda Kuruc, Mary Mauch, Deb Evenson and Lesa Wilm.

Secretary's report was read by Anita Onchuck and accepted as read.

Treasurer's report was given by Gale Link, with a balance of $2,055.00.

OLD BUSINESS:

NCR Volunteer Leaders Forum Reports will be given at next meeting.

Twyla Gast Ag Trip to NDSU report costing about $500.00 with 33 children and 7 adults attending. It was a lot of fun for all that attended.

Raffle Report: We were down considerably compared to the last two years. In 1999 tickets sold were 3077, in 2000 tickets sold were 2297, and in 2001 only 2057 were sold.

There are a number of clubs that have not yet paid for insurance which is $1.00/member and $2.00/horse members. Clubs need to get this paid.

Community Service: It is 10 points for each service that is being done now. The points are given on the front page of the awards form. No points are being given now for awards, but at least two community service activities are required for a medallion. Should the community service points be removed or kept on? Should we keep track of hours instead of just 10 points for each time? Maybe the members that do a lot of community service should be recognized at awards day? Discuss at next meeting to be brought up for next year.

NEW BUSINESS:

Why are the meetings being held at law enforcement Center. City Center Café costs $25.00 every time we use it, the LEC is free. Voted on to stay at LEC because it is free.

Changing dates for 4-H events-Communication Arts is set for May 29. Should we keep changing dates or leave them once they are set. Keep in late April on a Saturday morning. Instead of keep changing dates, check into doing an absentee video before communication arts at the Extension Office.

Rummage Sale is every other year, will be May 11 and 12, 2001, at the Armory in Wahpeton. Put up signs, some given to leaders to be put up in different communities. Setup will be Thursday, May 10, from 3:00 to 5:30 (bring tables, hangers, clothes racks if you have any). Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 arrange items and each family is asked to bring 2 dozen 3x3 bars wrapped. Prices will be set. Needs to be good quality merchandise. Will be put on Channel 8 free of charge.

Freedom to Soar will be May 13 starting at 1:00 pm at the Chahinkapa Park. 4-H members teach pet care and encourage taking care of pets. Will contact kids in Pet and Animal Projects to volunteer. Anita Onchuck will make signs to hang up at the zoo.

Richland/Wilkin Project Day will be July 20 in the Wahpeton Park. Anita Onchuck and Nya Haberman are on the committee to find projects and teachers. 24 to 28 projects will be done-we need to come up with at least half, 1 hour long projects.

Achievement Days change of times was set at the October meeting. Judging at start at 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm. Project kids-judges should be told if this is a kit or not so they take into consideration when judging. Raising money-we have $20,000 in the 4-H Foundation, if we run short can we use this? Gale Link moved to look into the CD money we have the Foundation to know the availability if and when we need it will be checked into. At Achievement Days we should still send out the letters for donation for premiums and do a follow up on these. Send letters quarterly to the Eagles and Knights of Columbus because they give out money quarterly. Maybe they will be willing to help out 4-H. Duties of Clubs: See if parents will help out in the concession stands. May 21, 8:00 p.m. Wyndmere Community Club meeting, should send someone out to check out what is going on for Achievement Days. One from office will go and someone in the Wyndmere areas.

4-H project books: Some books are old. New books come out June 1. Need to order in advance to get new books by June 1 for next years books.

Range Youth Camp: Soil Conservation will sponsor 2 youth and they will pay the $95 sponsor fee. Camp is at Medora.

Mowing around 4-H building was discussed. If we could get it leveled off Wayne Beyer could possibly mow when he does the mowing for gymnastics.

Could we possibly do the PSA for the radio station during Achievement Days? With statics being judged from 12-4, the PSA's could be done from 4-6:30 and make open to public from 6:30-7:00 and be able to take projects home that night.

NEXT MEETING WILL BE JULY 16, 2001 AT 7:00 P.M. AT LEC.

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted by,

Anita Onchuck
