Course Descriptions

Core Activities/Tutoring/Homework Help
We have retained our math, science, social studies, and reading activities. Counseling will be once a month. Homework Help is available in all sites. One on One tutoring can be requested but is limited to availability of staff in some sites.

4-H Activities
4-H activities are integrated into our program. We believe there are many benefits for students who experience the 4-H hands-on activities and projects. Participants will develop leadership abilities and creative skills that will serve them throughout life. The activities are open to all students. We invite families to join the new Richland County 4-H Club. Check out the County Club at http://www.ext.nodak.edu/county/richland/4-H/county-club.htm.

Shooting Sports
We will continue the popular shooting sports program with archery and air-gun. League competition was close last year with the top guns in each air-gun league receiving a trophy. This year will find us shooting between sites and having an afterschool championship tournament in mid-March. League for archery will start in September and end with the arrival of cold weather. Air gun is slated to start around November 1.

Recreation
Fishing, soccer, basketball, cross country skiing, swimming, bowling, broomball, snowshoeing, and other activities remain in the program. Our goal is to teach our students fun and healthy activities for their leisure time.

Hometown Heroes
The Wildcat mens basketball team will be back to continue the Hometown Heroes Program. The program includes fitness, health, sports nutrition, and drug/alcohol education activities. The program consists of a short lesson and a fun hands-on activity that teaches or reinforces the information contained in the lesson. A field trip to a Wildcat game is included. This activity is funded in part by the Pamida Foundation.

FIRST LEGO League
The FIRST LEGO League (FLL), considered the little league of the FIRST Robotics Competition, is the result of a partnership between FIRST and the LEGO Company. FLL extends the FIRST concept of inspiring and celebrating science and technology to children aged 9 through 14, using real-world context and hands-on experimentation.

Special Programming
The Chahinkapa Zoo, Tammy Sirek, NDSU Extension Service/Richland County, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service continue to provide special programs throughout the year.
