BIOGRAPHIES
Patricia Groven
Patricia Groven has been involved
in special education since her undergraduate years at Valley City Sate College
(now Valley City State University) when she volunteered at the Open-Door School.
Students in the program at that time ranged in age from 4-21 and were not

fostered a lifelong passion for teaching and improving services for these very
special children.

her Masters in Learning Disabilities from Moorhead State University (MSUM). She
completed further certification in Emotional Disturbance at the University of
North Dakota, returning in 1998 to finish a Doctorate of Education in
Educational Leadership.
Dr. Groven has worked as a classroom teacher in kindergarten,
second, and sixth grades. She worked in South Dakota as a non-categorical
special educator, both at the elementary and high school levels and also served
as Director of Special Education in that program. For 15 years she worked as a
Learning Disabilities/Emotional Disturbance consultant and teacher for Lake
Region Special Education in Munich and Border Central School Districts. Dr.
Groven has been a Director of Special Education for South Valley Multi-District
Special Education Unit since 1999. The Unit has its office in Hankinson, ND, and
serves Richland, Sargent, and Ransom Counties.
