4-H IN THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Adrian Biewer, 21st CCLC Director, and myself are in the
process of implementing 4-H into the countys after school program.
This is an opportunity to share 4-Hs many resources with a larger
audience and our after school coordinators. We are hoping that the
young people exposed to 4-H in the after school program will
continue their involvement beyond their after school experience,
either by enrolling in area clubs or enrolling independently. High
school 4-H has many opportunities for leadership development and
great camps that provide many hands on experiences.
The after school coordinators will be facilitators of the 4-H
program not 4-H leaders. We will, therefore, provide opportunities
for leader development by offering the parents of children enrolled
in the after school program to do volunteer hours in lieu of fees
for the after school program. Please contact your local coordinator
or Adrian for more information on this program.
After school students do not have to enroll in 4-H, but
are welcome to enroll and participate in all county events,
including receiving premium dollars at Achievement Days and a
limited number of fund raising projects.
I look forward to sharing this wonderful youth program with more
of you and the opportunity to work with your children.
Sincerely, Colleen M. Svingen, Extension Agent, NDSU
