Garden Variety Testers Needed!
NDSU has just announced a new program to North Dakota!  NDSU needs gardeners to identify superior varieties for our state.  Such research can lead to more profits for growers and healthier diets for families.

In each trial, a gardener receives two packets of promising varieties.  For example, testing of the purple carrot varieties 'Dragon' and 'Purple Haze'.  The gardener is asked to note which variety germinated better, was healthier, produced more yield (or flowers), and tasted (or looked) better.  It's simple, but very valuable information.

You can use the vegetables or flowers you grow to show at the Ransom County Fair or enjoy them yourself!  Many of the varieties are quite fascinating, such as giant kohlrabi, freckle-faced lettuce, squash that looks like flying saucers, yard-long  beans, red sunflowers, and candy-cane zinnias.

At the end of the year the data will be compiled across North Dakota and recommendations will be developed.  All gardeners who submit results will receive a certificate that recognizes their participation in this project.

More information is available at http://www.dakotagardener.com/trials/index.html.
