Improving the Local Community Business Climate
NDSU Extension in business development targets both new and experienced entrepreneurs and helps equip them to adapt to rapidly changing business environments, tune into customer needs and take advantage of emerging opportunities. The NDSU Center for Community Vitality is the front door to the university, connecting business and entrepreneurs to research and technology.
Programs:
- Manufacturing Engineering - technical assistance for existing manufacturing, energy and other businesses and entrepreneurs
- Specialty crop/vegetable marketing and production- educational programs on alternative high-value crops. New crop production and marketing information, and connections with industry
- Agribusiness enterprise development - resources for entrepreneurs and small and medium sized ag-related businesses
- Business retention and expansion - in-depth planning process used to assist communities in their efforts to help existing businesses
- Customer service - meeting the needs of customers in private and public settings
- Agritourism - connecting farm and ranch operations to alternative enterprises through tourism
- Niche agricultural marketing - building innovative relationships between North Dakota farmers and consumers
- Youth entrepreneurship - entrepreneurial train-the-trainer credit class for adult leaders and teachers of grades three through seven
- E-commerce - electronic commerce for small business

- Leadership training for local officials - improving North Dakota leaders' effectiveness to build community sustainability
- Leadership development through project management - short course to equip emerging community leaders with individual leadership skills.
- Rural Leadership North Dakota - in-depth two-year leader training to prepare and develop effective leaders to strengthen rural communities
- Horizons - community leadership and planning program to reduce poverty in small rural communities
