Computer Woes- Part 2
The Dell laptop I talked about last week still shows an unknown hardware device error but I’ve reinstalled all the software and everything seems to work fine so even the Dell support tech has given up. We will just use it as-is until we have a problem again. Which might not happen.
My HP is still in Bismarck at the repair shop and I have not heard anything from them.
Today started out with two new computer problems in the courthouse and a call from someone Portal whose printer wasn’t working correctly. I made some suggestions about the printer and started on the other problems. Tracy’s computer was not showing any screen activity although the lights on the front of the computer were blinking. Switching monitors solved that problem. Another Dell laptop running Windows Vista is getting a blue error screen right after the password is entered. The auto repair feature didn’t solve anything. I ran system restore at the point where the last windows update had taken place and thought it had solved the problem. It worked for about 5 minutes and then started doing the same thing again. I have found a message indicating that the antivirus program is not compatible with Vista but it has been working ok for six months so that may or may not be related to the problem. The computer does have some tech support remaining with Dell so I will try and contact them tomorrow.
