New Fertilizer Recommendations

A new bulletin featuring revised recommendations for fertilizing Hard Red Spring Wheat and Durum is now available from the NDSU Extension Service.

Dr. Dave Franzen has pulled together nitrogen fertilizer research data from 1970 through 2009 and added economic relationships with price and protein premiums to develop new nitrogen recommendations for spring wheat and durum producers. The new bulletins divide the state into three regions based on the N response rate data and then further allows producers to rate their fields as high, low or medium yielding fields before adding expected crop prices and nitrogen fertilizer prices into the mix to determinate optimum fertilizer rates for each fields.

The new bulletins are available at the Burke County Extension Office. Stop by, give us a call at 377-2927 or email me at dan.folske@ndsu.edu to get your copy.

If you like to work online just google “Dr. Dave Franzen NDSU” That should bring up a link to Dr. Franzen’s Hompage featuring his North Dakota Spring Wheat & Durum Nitrogen Calulator.

If you would rather type in the link than google it, it is: http://www.soilsci.ndsu.nodak.edu/Franzen/Franzen.html
