Conclusion

North Dakota produces about 20.7 million metric tons of biomass annually. Given the importance of agriculture to North Dakota’s economy, it is not surprising that the majority of biomass available originates from farm production (20.4 million tons of dry biomass). About 60% of the crop residue comes from hay and wheat. Other biomass resources include municipal yard waste, forest based wood, and hay and wood residues from State and National Parks. Biomass resources are available in every North Dakota county, albeit in differing forms and quantities.
