Installing Pegasus Mail

Setting Up a New Installation of Pegasus | Configuring a Current Installation of Pegasus

To start installing Pegasus Mail, download the installation program from http://www.pmail.com and save it to your computer. Then double-click on the file.

You should see the screen to the right. Once you do, click on 'Setup' to begin.

winzip self-extractor screen

Now you should see this screen. This is an opportunity for you to view information related to the setup of Pegasus Mail if you wish.

Generally this is not needed and can be ignored.

Once you are ready to continue setup, click on 'Next'.

The next screen you see is where the real installation begins. On this screen you are asked where to install Pegasus Mail. The default is C:\PMAIL

If you are upgrading your pegasus installation from an older version, you might want to check as older versions used to be located in C:\WINPMAIL

When updating an older version, you MUST install in the same directory as the previous version in order to keep all your mail and account information.

If this is a new installation, it is recommended to leave the default as it is.

Be sure to remember what you enter, you will need that information later on.

When finished, click 'Next".

selecting where to install Pegasus

Now you will see a screen with additional installation options. These options will add a shortcut to Pegasus Mail in your start menu and desktop, as well as set up your browser to use Pegasus anytime you click on an e-mail address in a webpage.

Please notice that we have un-checked the 'Pre-configure a user mailbox' option. This is because we will be creating the account manually to ensure it works exactly as needed.

When the correct options have been selected, click on 'Next'.

additional setup options

You are now ready to install Pegasus Mail. This is your last chance to go back and fix any settings you feel might be incorrect.

If you are confident your settings so far are OK, click 'Finish' to begin the installation.

You will now see a series of screens describing the status of the install.

ready to install Pegasus

Once Pegasus Mail is finished installing, you should see the following screen.

Once you see this, Pegasus is fully installed on your computer.

The next step you need to take is to create accounts for the people who will be using Pegasus Mail.

When you first start Pegasus Mail after installation, you will see this screen. It is basically asking you if you will be the sole user or if there will be other people also using Pegasus to check their e-mail (this is so it can create seperate areas to view and store e-mail for each user).

Typically we suggest to set it up for more than one person, even if you are the only one currently using it. This way you have flexability should the situation change.

Select the second option to continue.

Pegasus mailbox creation page

You will now get a welcome message and will be asked where to store your mail. The default is C:\PMAIL\MAIL

Generally you want to place your mail folder inside your pegasus folder. For those of you with older versions located in the C:\WINPMAIL, you would want to set your mailbox path to: C:\WINPMAIL\MAIL

setting mailbox folder path

Once your mailbox is set you will see a screen like this one. This is the account screen that will list any user accounts created for those using Pegasus Mail.

Currently there are no accounts, we will need to create at least one in order for you to check your e-mail.

To begin creating an account, click on 'New'.

You will now be asked to enter some information for the new account.

Your username is what you will type in to access Pegasus when we are finished. Make sure it is something easy for you to remember.

Personal is just your full name.

Be sure to give yourself Administrator privledges and uncheck 'Copy default mail messages'.

Click 'OK' to continue

user details page (creating a new user)

We are now back to the account screen. As you can see, we now have one account (the one we created) listed.

If you need additional accounts, create them now just like we did the last one.

When finished, click on 'Close'

Once you have closed the account window, your screen should look something like this.

Pegasus is now ready for you to log in and set it up for your e-mail account information.
