McAfee
7.1 / 8.0i
Adding the
NDSU Download Location
(Click
on pictures for larger image)
| To update,
we first need to locate the McAfee 7.1 VShield icon in the system
tray (next to the clock). |
 |
|
Once located, we will then right click on the VShield
icon and get a context (pop-up) menu. |
| At the top of this menu, there will be an option called
VirusScan Console. Click on this to open the console window. |
 |
|
When the VirusScan Console window opens up, this is
what it should look like. |
| While most of the anti-virus setup has been done on
default, we need to add the NDSU datfile update location. To do this,
we click on the Tools menu and then select "Edit Autoupdate Repository
List". |
 |
|
To the left
is what you will most likely see in the list. If you see a listing
called NDSU, you can stop now - your setup
has already been completed by someone else. Most likely a technician. |
| If you only see the two entries for NAI, then we need
to click on the Add button. This is what you see once you have selected
Add. |
 |
|
The entry we want to create is called NDSU. We will
be using an FTP repository so be sure to select that. The URL we
will use is antivirus.nodak.edu/ (be sure to add the "/" at the end
of the url). The port number is 21. Lastly, be sure Anonymous Login
is checked. Click on the image to the right for a full size picture,
you can compare this to your screen. |
| Once this is done, all we need to do now is move the
NDSU entry to the top so it is the first download location checked.
We do this by left-clicking once on NDSU and then clicking on the
"Move Up" button several times. Once finished, click on OK and close
out of the rest of the console windows. |

Scheduling Updates
|
To schedule updates with
McAfee 7.1, open the console window like before. You will find
task listed in the console called AutoUpdate. |
| Double click on AutoUpdate to open the VirusScan AutoUpdate Properties
window. Once open, click on the Schedule button in the upper right
corner. |
 |
|
Now you should see a Schedule Settings window like the one on the
left. In this window there are two tabs: Task and Schedule. Click
on the Schedule tab. |
You should now see a window similar to the one on the right. Under
schedule task, select Weekly. Now select a start time when you know
your computer will be on. We usually recommend to have you run the
update over the noon hour (12:00 PM). Near the bottom, you should
now select which days (M-F) that you would like. We recommend you
choose at least 2 non-consecutive days to increase you chances of
getting the new updates as soon as they're released.
In this example,
we are updating at noon every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
When finished, click on OK and close out of the remaining windows.
Your
computer is now set to auto-update McAfee 7.1 |
