Dr. Larsen attends conference in Finland

Dr. Ryan Larsen, Assistant Professor with Agribusiness and Applied Economics Department, attended “Cooperative Value in Internationalized Operations” conference in Helsinki, Finland in June, 2012.
Dr. Larsen presented a paper titled “The Effects of Uncertainty on Cooperative Firm Leverage” in which he is a co-author with Dr. Gregory McKee, Associate professor in Agribusiness and Applied Economics Department and director of Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperatives. The paper analyzed the impact of macroeconomic uncertainty on firm level decisions such as debt levels of North Dakota Cooperatives. The conference brought in participants from fourteen different countries and consisted of formal meetings and also a tour of agriculture in Finland. The tour provided participants with an opportunity to experience a dairy cooperative, lumber operation, and a traditional Finnish livestock operation.
