Dr. David Ripplinger submits grant to USDA/AFRI

David Ripplinger

Dr. David Ripplinger, Assistant Professor in Agribusiness and Applied Economics Department, has submitted a grant proposal in the amount of $497,806 to USDA/AFRI.

The title of this grant proposal is:
Technology Driven Biomass Economic Development in Upper Mid-Western United States”

Despite its abundant natural resources the region severly lacks knowledge, technology and mechanisms required to convert the biomass potential into innovative business opportunities (enterprises).  This has raised the question about how can we tap biomass feedstock resources and create social and economic opportunities for small and medium sized farms and rural communitites.  To proceed we wll quantify the economic supply of biomass feedstock and map the feedstock to the geographic location.

A broader impact is also envisioned, as many of the project outputs will be readily transferable to other feedstocks and other regions of the country.
