E-mail Migration Update

By the end of December, only nine of about 500 @ndsuext.nodak.edu users were left to be migrated to @ndsu.edu. Any e-mail addressed to an @ndsuext.nodak.edu address will be forwarded for a minimum of one year. Since e-mail will be forwarded, Ag Communication recommends using up current business cards and letterhead before ordering new supplies.

The usernames and passwords for the Agriculture and University Extension Intranet at http://info.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu will not change at this time. This Ag Info Center includes  the calendar, professional development opportunities, electronic mailing lists, FeedList, file transfer, Extension Quarterly Program Reports, Extension Accomplishments Reporting System and other items.

The firstname.lastname@ndsu.edu  usernames and passwords are only for
e-mail, Blackboard and possibly Novell network access for users located
on campus.

That means you still need to remember your @ndsuext.nodak.edu username and password in addition to your @ndsu.edu username and password for awhile.

The Ag IT Advisory Group is finalizing recommendations for organizational and departmental e-mail addresses (for example, adams@ndsuext.nodak.edu) before any changes will be made with those accounts.

The conversion from majordomo e-mail lists to the NDSU listserv system is being worked on by Roger Egeberg with Ag Communication and Deb Hegdahl with Information Technology Services.

If there are any problems with your e-mail account or you aren't getting e- mail addressed to your @ndsuext.nodak.edu, please call the NDSU Help Desk at 231-8685, option 1.

Write the Right Word

Dont be confused about when to use who and whom. Here are a few simple rules that might help you.

* Who is a pronoun you use to refer to humans and animals with names. The man who rented the room left the window open. Who is at the door? Their quarterhorse, Sparky, who won the race, will be sold.

* Use who as the subject of a verb (see the examples above) and whom as the object of a verb. Whom will the teacher choose to represent the class? The man to whom the room was rented left the window open.

* An easy way to check whether to use who or whom is to substitute he for who and him for whom or whomever. The student who didnt turn in his homework flunked the class. (He didnt turn in his homework and flunked the class.)  She did not know whom to call about her diseased tree. (She did not know to call him about the diseased tree.) The new student did not know with whom she would be paired for the experiment. (The new student did not know she would be paired with him for the experiment.) Sheila wanted to go to the movie with whomever was available. (She wanted to go to the movie with him.)
