2011 Variety Trial Results
The variety trial results for the 2011 season are now available at http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/varietytrials or by individual crop on the Carrington website at http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/CarringtonREC/agronomy-1/copy_of_crop-index.
Research results from the 2011 Carrington Research Extension Center’s field research programs will be limited this year due to extreme weather conditions. A significant hail storm passed through the land base of the CREC on July 24 which caused varying degrees of damage to all field experiments. The damage varied by crop, crop growth stage, and location of each trial. Rainfall amounts in excess also resulted in sporadic flooding that has caused us to terminate selected trials both at Carrington and off-station. The CREC’s cereal crop variety trials were especially impacted.
The primary objective of the CREC crop variety trials/hybrid performance tests is to provide an unbiased assessment of genetic potential and growing season performance among a set of varieties/hybrids. The CREC strives to eliminate other sources of variation (eg. soil variations, fertility, water, weeds, etc.) so that our research results reflect the true genetic potential of the varieties/hybrids being evaluated. The degree of hail and water damage that has been expressed in various trials will make it impossible to discern true differences in genetic potential.
At this time CREC research leaders have determined to terminate the following crop variety trials/hybrid performance tests. The associated yield and quality results for the 2011 season will not be available:
